Thieves who robbed truck driver of Rs 10,000 arrested

Khanna The Khanna police have arrested five robbers who allegedly stole Rs 10,000 at gunpoint from a truck driver on Thursday night near Kamma Ghurala village falling under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station.

The police also claimed to have recovered a Scorpio and Innova car, along with 4 rifles loaded with 30, 77, 112 and 22 cartridges each and the stolen amount of Rs 10,000.

The accused were identified as Dilsher Singh alias Pappu, Gurlovleen Singh, Jasvir Singh, Pritpal Singh and Jagtar Singh. They are residents of Nawan Pind, Chakkmafi, Bondli, Khanna and Shahpur village respectively.

In a press release, SSP Arun Pal Singh said, “Truck driver Rampal informed police that he was on his way to New Delhi with cleaner Pappu after loading potatoes from village Gazipur on Thursday night. When the truck reached near Kamma Ghurala village, it was intercepted by a Scorpio and Innova car with five occupants. One of the accused came out of the car and fired a shot in the air and threatened the truck driver.”

The SSP added, “The accused then escaped with Rs 10,000. They were arrested following information about the vehicles provided by the truck driver.”

Undertrial escapes, held in 72 hrs

AN undertrial escaped from police custody on the way to a local court complex on Saturday but was nabbed soon near the Rattaherri railway crossing. The accused, Manjit Singh, has been lodged in the Ludhiana Central Jail and was being taken in a police bus to attend a court hearing. Manjit Singh is the second undertrial who escaped from police custody in the area within 72 hours. A drug smuggler, Paramjit Singh Pumma, had escaped from police custody near Samrala after allegedly drugging two policemen - Miierpal Singh and Balwinder Singh - on their way from Kapurthla to Patiala. City police station SHO Rajesh Kumar told Newsline, “Manjit Singh was lodged in Ludhiana Jail for two cases registered against him at the Macchiwara police station for theft and one under the Arms act.” The SHO added that Manjit was being taken to a Samrala court for hearing. “He escaped from police custody but head constable Harminder Singh and SPO Rajiv Singh nabbed him after a chase near the Ratanherri railway crossing, about half a kilometre away from the court complex. A case has been registered against the accused.”
