While Sajid was killed in the Batla House encounter on September 19, Zeeshan is currently in the custody of the Gujarat Police, in connection with his alleged role in the blasts that took place in Ahmedabad in July last year.

The police have claimed in the chargesheet that both Zeeshan and Sajid were also involved in previous incidents of terror blasts across the country, including the UP court blasts of November 2007, and the Jaipur blasts in May last year.

In the chargesheet filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal, the police also charged Qayamuddin and Chota Sajid besides five others — Mohd Saif, Zeeshan, Zia-ur-Rehman, Saqib Nisar and Mohd Shakeel — with murder, attempt to murder and waging war against the country under the Indian Penal Code. Qayamuddin and Sajid were allegedly assigned responsibilities by SIMI for carrying out the serial blasts in Rajasthan and Gujarat respectively.

The police have relied mainly on the disclosure statement of Zeeshan Ahmed and call records recovered from the cell phone of the accused while drawing conclusions in the Barakhamba Road blast, in which two persons were killed and 26 others were injured.

The police have claimed that Atif Ameen, the alleged leader of militant group Indian Mujahideen, had been preparing Sajid for fidayeen attacks. Atif was killed in the Batla House encounter.

During investigations, Zeeshan had disclosed that Atif had a “good network of Indian Mujahideen militants” in Mumbai and other places in India. He said Atif had sent some members to Manipal in Karnataka to bring back explosive materials from one Shahraukh, and the same were used by them in the Delhi serial blasts, the chargesheet states.
