Chandigarh With the arrest of the third member of the notorious car-borne snatchers’ gang on Tuesday, the police claim to have solved at least four recent snatching incidents in the city. The third accused, Ram Kumar, was nabbed by the police while stealing manhole covers from Sector 45 on Tuesday.

“The gang had snatched a laptop and a mobile phone near the Transport Area lightpoints last month. They had also snatched cash and documents from a lady in Sector 36 the very next day,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) J S Khaira

More arrests are likely in the case, he added.

On Sunday night, two other gang members, Sudhir and Mustafa, were arrested while they were escaping after committing two snatchings in Sector 44 and 36.

Who is Sudhir?
Sudhir, one of the arrested gang members, is the son of a retired Chandigarh Police sub-inspector and is a postgraduate in Science. According to the police, his father is financially well-off and had invested in a business for his son but Sudhir, allegedly a drug addict, did not show much interest. His sister has completed a PhD from the Panjab University. The car used in the crime was gifted to Sudhir by his in-laws after marriage, the police said. His father denied knowledge of Sudhir’s involvement in the snatching incidents reported across the city.
