Ludhiana Digressing from the festivities that surround Lohri and setting a cue for others, the villagers of Dad have taken a vow to fight female foeticide in letter and spirit. Unlike on the bith of a girl child, Lohri also means grand celebrations to celebrate the arrival of a male child in the family.

Gudev Singh, Head, Sangat Patti Gurdwara in Daad said, "The source of inspiration is NGO Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, who approached us to hold a presentation on female foeticide and the response was positive.”

Satnam Singh Salhopuri, Youth Services Director, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle said, "Women took a keen interest in the presentation. After the event was over, people could be seen discussing the hazards of femicide. We requested the head of the gurdwara to appeal to the villagers to boycott the illegal practice. As Gurdev Singh asked for their cooperation, the villagers raised their hands saying, "Asin kudimaran da boycott karange (We will boycott all those who indulge in the crime of female foeticide). It was overwhelming response.

As part of our extensive programmes, we have organised lectures and shows in about 50 schools and colleges.
