“The Bofors gun had been on display in other cities but not in Kolkata. This will be the first time that the city residents will get to see it,” said Group Captain R K Das, Chief Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Defence.
While the acquisition of the gun may have been controversial, Das said it was one of their best guns and that the controversy should not overshadow its quality.
“Much has been written about it and one would not want to dwell on it any more,” he added.
Apart from the Bofors gun, T-72 tanks, BMP-II Armoured Personnel Carrier, 105 mm field gun, L-70 Air Defence guns, Anti Tank Guided Missile, mobile satellite vehicle, IGLA Air Defence Missile and Mine-protected Vehicle Casspir will also be on display.
