New Delhi, January 4 Security at Akshardham temple was stepped up today after police received intelligence inputs that Kashmiri militants were planning to blow it up. “We received an input that some militants belonging to Kashmir-based groups were planning to create terror in the Capital by blowing up the temple,” Alok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, said.

The officials said terrorists have been intercepted by agencies talking about targeting the temple close to January 4. No militant outfit's name is specified in the interception. Following the input, police have deployed more force at the temple.

Intelligence agencies had last month warned that militants planned to carry out terror strikes in the Capital. Police have intensified patrolling and checking of vehicles in the Capital. “There is nothing to panic about. We are keeping a close watch,” a senior police official said.
