Pune The Pune Rural Police have cracked down on spurious liquor manufacturing den at Bhekrai Nagar in Fursungi on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by inspector Bhausaheb Andhalkar of the local crime branch raided the liquor den on the second floor of Aru Vihar building in Bhekrai Nagar around 4 pm.

The police arrested three persons identified as Jagdish Umesh Shetty (34), Umesh Anand Shetty (30), both residents of Bhekrai Nagar and Syed Mohammed Mujawar (20) of Kondhwa. The police have seized fake country and foreign liquor, chemicals and a car — all worth Rs 3.25 lakh from the spot.

The police said that the liquor was being supplied to some local hotels and dhabas. The police said that major action will be taken soon against these hotels and dhabas as the fake liquor contained harmful chemicals that could have caused severe medical problems to consumers.
