Rajkot The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) sealed three bogus clinics and served notices to 17 other doctors in a drive launched in the wake of the spread of Hepatitis B in some parts of the state. These clinics did not have facilities for the proper disposal of biomedical waste.

A team lead by Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Brahmbhatt conducted a raid in the slum areas as a precautionary measure to prevent the outbreak of any epidemic.

The officials sealed a clinic run by Jitendran Bhatti at Gangiwaad following investigation that Bhatti is not a doctor. The clinic was in his father’s name, who was a doctor, and Bhatti was running the clinic in the slums.

Later, two more clinics were sealed as they did not have registration. One of them was being run by the Shri Ram Raghuvanshi Charitable Trust on Dudh Saagar Road, while the other was being run by a lady doctor, Jyotsna Shukla, in the Chunarvada area. Bharmbhatt said: “The three clinics have been sealed with immediate effect.”

The drive further revealed that as many as 16 clinics in the Chunarvada, Dudh Saafar Road and Gangiwaad area of Old Rajkot did not have facility to dispose off biomedical waste .

The RMC health department has taken up the drive following reports that the negligence of doctors, coupled with the use of used syringes had led to the spread of the Hepatitis B virus in some parts of Gujarat.

The health officials said the doctors at these 17 clinics have been served notices to make necessary arrangements for the proper disposal of biomedical waste, or face stringent action.
