Three dead after two trucks collide near Una

Junagadh Three people were burnt alive when two trucks collided on Simasi Road near Una and caught fire.

Two of the victims have been identified, while the identity of the third person has not yet been established. The police sent the charred remains of the deceased to Jamnagar for autopsy, on Tuesday.

According to the police, two trucks bearing registration numbers GJ 11 D 9561 and GJ 18 X 8218 collided head-on. Fire broke out immediately and both the trucks were reduced to cinders.

The driver of truck no 8218 somehow managed to come out alive. All three passengers in the other truck were badly trapped between the wreckage and died.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Ramabhai Rana and Chunilal Lohana, an accountant with Vishnu Oil Mill.

Liyaqat Saiyed, the truck driver who survived, lodged a complaint in this regard with the Gir-Gadhda police station. The police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code.

"We recovered three charred bodies from the accident site. A mobile phone was also recovered, which, after a SIM card was inserted, revealed that the truck had been loaded from Vishnu oil mill in Una. Two of the dead have been identified, while the third's identity is unknown," said an officer of Gir-Gadhda police station.
