Three die in Maoist violence in W Midnapore

Kolkata Three persons, including a woman, died in Maoist violence in West Midnapore district today. The woman’s body was recovered by police from Bhalukbasa forest near Kesiapata village in the Goaltore police station area.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma said following a complaint lodged by the woman’s family with the Golatore police station this morning, police recovered the bullet-ridden body and the deceased has been identified as Phoolmani Murmu.

PCAPA spokesperson Asit Mahato claimed the woman died of police

bullets at Kesiapata village while the joint forces were locked in a gunbattle with Maoists last night in Bhalukbasa forest.

Verma said police were investigating the incident.

Mahato also claimed another villager Gurupada Hembram was killed in the police firing last night. Verma said there was no information on the death of Hembram.

In a separate incident, police have recovered the body of a CPM activist from Garmal in the Salboni police station area. Vinod Singh, a CPM activist, was allegedly abducted by Maoists from Salboni last night. Today, locals found his body lying beside the road. There were bullet injuries on his body, said Verma.

According to police, Maoists suspected Singh was a police informer. A few leaflets and posters were found beside his body, said police.
