Rajkot Three sailors from Jamnagar district have reportedly gone missing after their barge caught up in a cyclone near Dubai on Thursday, said sources.

According to reports, it was a Pakistani vessel with 11 crew members onboard. It had a cargo of cars and left Abu Dhabi port.

“We have received the news from our counterparts in Dubai. It is feared that the vessel might have sunk,” said Adam Bhaya, the secretary of the Salaya Vessel Owners’ Association.

Two of the missing sailors – Mamad Noor Mohammad and Anwar Haji Musa – are from the port town of Salaya.

The third missing Indian sailor, who reportedly hails from Jamnagar, has not been identified yet.

“According to the latest reports, four crew members were rescued by a helicopter of the UAE government. But there is no news about the Indian sailors,” said Bhaya.

Thirty-six-year-old Mamad Noor has a wife, mother and father, whereas Anwar (55) is the head of his family.

Bhaya said there was no official channel through which the news could be officially confirmed.

“So far, whatever information we received was through our contacts in the shipping industry. After the initial reports about the vessel getting caught in the cyclone and the rescue of four sailors, nothing further is known,” Bhaya added.
