The incident occurred when Pir Mohammad Valishah Sheikh (75), wife Saherabanu (70) and ganddaughter Sania (4) were walking along the tracks after getting off an Ahmedabad local train, they added.
They were run over by the Shatabdi Express coming from Mumbai, which passes through Navsari station around 9.40 in the morning. All three died on the spot.
According to the police, the Sheikh family from Gomtipur in Ahmedabad, had come to Navsari to distribute their son’s wedding invitation cards among their relatives. The matter is being investigated by the Railway police, they said.
