Kolkata Three students were sent to 14-day judicial custody on Monday for allegedly molesting a girl, an engineering student. The girl had lodged an FIR at the Jadavpur police station on Sunday that she was drugged and molested by the three youths.

Engineering students Saptarshi Sanyal (21) and Tanmay Baria (22) live in a rented flat at Santoshpur area in South 24 Parganas. On Saturday, they invited the victim, their classmate, to their place for a party. A friend of the duo, Rishi Sengupta (22), a management student, was also present on the occasion, said a police officer.

Police Superintendent Ajay Ranade said the boys drugged and raped her. “Tanmoy invited the girl to his flat saying there will be a party and other girls will also be present. But on reaching the spot, she found there was no girl except her,” Ranade said.

“Tanmay offered her soft drinks around 5.30 pm and she became drowsy after the drink. It seems she was drugged by the boys,” Ranade said. The girl complained in the FIR that the three youths raped her while she was semi-conscious and too weak to resist.

“She also alleged that the other boys present at the spot didn’t come for her help but stood there as mere spectators,” a senior police officer at the Jadavpur police station said.

The girl, a resident of Malda district, was staying as a paying guest in Tanmay’s neighbourhood.
