Bhuj, March 6 A government-sponsored annual health camp is being organised in the region after a gap of nearly two years. The three-day Arogya Mela will aid area residents, who cannot afford expensive medical treatment.

The district is presently in the grip of seasonal diseases. Most hospitals in the region have admitted a number of patients exhibiting symptoms of cough, cold and fever.

District Collector R R Varsani said, “We are organising a health fair at the Jubilee Ground from Saturday to Monday. Government and non-government health agencies will aid us in this venture. Free medical facilities will be provided for treatment of major diseases.”

Varsani said that a special meeting of health administration and known NGOs will be conducted. He added that private doctors have also been approached for rendering medical aid to the poor patients. He said funds for organising the camp have been raised, adding that the camp would focus on preventive measures.

He said, “We also plan to include new treatments such as naturopathy to help the beneficiary choose the system of medicine of their liking. We expect a turnout of hundreds of patients from across the district.” He further said that special attention would be given to common diseases in the district.

Varsani added that parents would also be educated on the basics of child health care. “'Many parents still do not understand the importance of various vaccinations, that would protect their child against various diseases,” he said.
