Tibbia College to be developed as university: CM

New Delhi, February 13 Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday announced that Tibbia College at Karol Bagh would soon be developed as a university. The college, founded by Hakim Ajmal Khan, has earned national importance due to its contribution in Ayurvedic and Unani system of medicine.

"The government would ensure that college regains its old glory and render substantial contribution in research and development of unani and ayurvedic medicine system," she said while addressing the inaugural function at the college.

Dikshit also inaugurated a 60-bed maternity/child block in the Tibbia College Hospital and a national conference on 'Shalya Ayurved Sambhasha 2008'. Stressing the need for integration of the two systems of medicine with allopathic, she said that all systems supplement each other and are not competitive.

Dikshit added that her government would provide all assistance in development and expansion of Tibbia College. Dikshit also announced that a big herbal park would come up in Ayurved Institute at Khera-Dabar, which would start imparting Ayurvedic Medical Education from next academic session. The institute is being developed over an area of 95 acres with an estimated cost of Rs 102 crore.
