The fate of 1984 riots-accused Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler hangs in balance as the steering committee is taking the anti-Sikh riots into account while deciding nominations, Congress sources say. Sajjan Kumar, it is learnt, is lobbying to contest from South Delhi, which has three Jat MLAs, three Gurjjar MLAs, as many Scheduled Caste MLAs, and one Punjabi Bania MLA in its Assembly constituencies.
These MLAs are, however, opposing Kumar’s candidature, say sources.
Despite the lobbying going on against the veteran Outer Delhi leader, it is Tytler who is likely to miss out on a ticket this time round, or so goes the buzz. Tytler’s Sadar Bazar
constituency is now part of Chandni Chowk, represented by Kapil Sibal — and the Congress high command is said to be favouring the latter for a Lok Sabha ticket. Sources say that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, a member of the screening committee, is backing Yoganand Shastri for the South Delhi constituency.
