NOIDA It wasn’t quite the start that Rashid Khan would’ve wanted in his pursuit of a record, specially with the way the scoring went in the first round of the LG Noida Open Amateur on Tuesday. The Delhi boy shot two-over 74 at he Noida Golf Club, and is already seven shots off the pace after Hyderabad’s Arshdeep Tiwana continued his good run in the season with a five-under 67.

The wind was obviously not a big deterrant as Tiwana took his back nine apart with accurate hitting and steady putting. The next name on the scoreboard is three strokes back, and is that of L Selvadurai, who carded two-under 70. Another shot back are are two 19-year-olds — Abhinav Lohan and Pranav Kaul — along with the experienced Saurabh Bahuguna.

Tiwana, who started from the tenth tee, had an up-and-down first nine holes. He made the turn at even par after three birdies and three bogeys. But he struck a purple patch on his return journey, sinking five birdie putts in his last nine holes.

Scores: 1 Arshdeep Tiwana -5 (67), 2 L Selvadurai -2 (70), 3 Abhinav Lohan, Pranav Kaul, Saurabh Bahuguna -1 (71), 6 Abhishek Jha, Gagan Verma, Rahul Bajaj 0 (72), 9 Biren Dey, Dipankar Kaushal, Jasjeet Singh, Jitender Gupta +1 (73)
