Lucknow With an aim to dislodge the Samajwadi Party legislator and parliamentarian from the governing board of the UP Rural Institute of Medical Science and Research at Sefai in Etawah, the state government has introduced a Bill in the state assembly on Thursday for amending the Act.

The amendment Bill seeks to delete the provision for the membership of the MLA and MP. The UP Rural

Institute of Medical Science and Research Act, 2005 provides for de-facto membership of the local MLA and MP from Etawah in the governing board.

Sefai is part of the Jaswant Nagar assembly constituency and Samajwadi Party state president Shivpal Singh Yadav is the sitting MLA from this constituency. The other SP leader to be axed is Raghuraj Singh Shakya, the parliamentarian from Etawah.

According to a government official, the amendment is necessary for strengthening the administration of the institute.

The minister of medical education will be the ex-officio chairman of the institute while the chief secretary of the state will be the chairman of the governing board of the institute. Brig T Prabhakar is currently officiating as the chairman of the institute.
