Chandigarh In a bid to fight recession and its effects on students, colleges across the city have decided to join hands by organising common placement drives. The aim is to make more job opportunities available to the students.

To begin with, a job fest is being organised by SD College in its premises on February 8. Giving details of the initiative, principal of SD College, Professor A C Vaid, said, “Looking at the slump in the job market, we have decided to organise a job fest for the students where we will invite students from other colleges as well. This would provide a great opportunity for them.” While over 45 companies are expected to participate in the placement drive, hundreds of students are likely to get recruited.

Apart from improving the chances of recruitment for students, another benefit of this joint venture would be the lowering of the burden of making arrangements on a single college. Students, meanwhile, think this move will mean better employment opportunities and are overwhelmed by the decision.

Talking to Newsline, Manpreet, a final year BCom student of SD College, said: “It is an excellent initiative on part of the college and will help students to a great extent as all the hiring companies will be present under one roof.”
