Ahmedabad One way to tackle the global financial crisis and minimise its impact is to revitalise the agri-business sector in India. Speaking at the inaugural function of Amaethon 2009, the largest Agri-business summit in the Asia-Pacific organized by the IIM-A, Piruz Khambhatta MD and Chairman, Rasna Industries, said: “Agri Business in recessionary times is a pure insurance,” pointing at the expectations that the sector enjoys.

The three-day summit began on Friday with the aim to provide for a new socio-economic blueprint of progress under the ambit of 'Green Engine for Development'.

Sources in IIM-A said it is an effort to celebrate the increasing recognition of agri-business sector and sensitise future business leaders about the new avenues, related activities, evident hurdles and suitable reforms associated with the sector.

Meanwhile, Khambhatta also identified infrastructure as the biggest impediment for the agri-business sector. He identified four critical drivers that will promulgate the sector and position India as the food factory of the world — International standardisation of tasks, variety enhancement among retailers and manufacturers, upsurge in the equity of Brand India and low cost due to cheap labour availability.
