With 66.19 lakh voters in the district covering the four constituencies, Maval, Pune, Baramati and Shirur, Dalvi is hoping to cover the remaining 49 per cent at the earliest. “We would urge the individual to go and register and get their I-D card which would make it easy for the polling day on April 23,’’he added.
Having already conducted meetings with returning officers for Maval, Baramati, Shirur he said that special training would be given on March 22. “A special booklet for the returning officer and the rules and regulations according to the election commission would be handed out to the officers,’’ he added.
The district would have 27,800 personnel covering various aspects of the polling process. Each of the officers have been asked to have been asked to appoint polling agents by March 15.
Dalvi said that the technical snag in the issuing of the cards with scanned photos will be sorted out soon and maximum number of people will get the cards. He has urged voters to go to their respective centres and get the cards at the earliest.
He however said that the notice of the Election Commission to allow the voter to vote without I-D card by providing proof of identity or a ration card has not reached him. “We are conducting the drives so that maximum voters are benefited and have the card. We have received no such directives on allowing the voter to vote without I-D cards,’’said Dalvi. The last elections had seen the commission giving directives that those producing their driving license, passbook issued by a nationalised bank, ration card, railway pass, PAN card or identity card issued by an employer will be allowed to exercise his right. In the state there are 7.28 crore voters with only 4.54 crore voters having their voters identity cards. This elections will also see special voter assistance centres at all the 82,000 polling boots in the state.
