Experts from the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) will judge the competition. Employees will be judged on the basis of clean buses, signboards, bus frequency, frequency of breakdowns, revenue, diesel consumed, improvement in mileage, facilities at the bus stop like computerisation, information centres, feed back etc. “The depots can use the money as they wish to improve services,” said Patil.
While this move is intended to encourage sensitivity of the employees towards passengers, the PMT Kamgaar Sangh Intach has slammed the move calling it eyewash. “Instead of improving infrastructure at the depots, they are running schemes needlessly. How can the workers clean the buses and depots when there is no water to clean themselves? There are no clean drinking water or latrine facilities for the drivers. There is very little time for buses to stay at the depot for servicing or cleaning, as there are a shortage of busses and drivers. We have no tools for maintenance. Buses are overcrowded, how can we arrive on time? They are expecting us to compete without providing us with the basic infrastructure,” said Dilip Mohite, advisor of the union.
