Lucknow Projects worth Rs 6,000 crore unveiled within 48 hoursM.u<

The state government seems to be in a hurry to launch all kinds of development projects before the announcement of the dates for the Lok Sabha elections. Within 48 hours, Mayawati has launched schemes worth over Rs 6,000 crore.

On Thursday, she launched projects worth Rs 4,000 crore for six cities — Lucknow, Kanpur, Faizabad, Ayodhya, Allahabad and Meerut. She unveiled a number of foundation stones for the projects, lined up at her official residence, to be later installed at the project sites.

The projects are mainly related to construction of roads and bridges, beautification of parks, drinking water and sewage facilities.

On Wednesday evening, she had launched two populist schemes — Mahamaya Garib Balika Ashirvad Yojna and Savitiribai Phule Balika Shiksha Madad Yojna — costing the state exchequer over Rs 2,000 crore.

Both schemes were announced on her 53rd birthday on January 15, when she laid the foundation for proejcts worth Rs 700 crore.

On December 20 last year, she had launched projects worth Rs 2,006 crore for five cities — Agra, Mathura, Vrindavan, Varanasi and Kannauj.

Mayawati has also assigned the projects to various officials to ensure timely completion. She has deployed Chief Secretary AK Gupta for physical verification of all works and asked the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Satish Chandra Mishra, to extend his help to the chief secretary in this regard.

Beside, she asked Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh to ensure the availability of finances and other support for the projects. Stressing on quality and speedy progress, Mayawati warned her officials, asking them not to be lackadaisical.

“My government ensures financial availability for all the projects before announcing them,” she said, criticising the pervious governments for neglecting the development of the state.
