Mumbai Sena leaders say the centre will act as a hub of Marathi culture

The election is around the corner and the Shiv Sena is leaving no stone unturned to woo the Marathi manoos. After making Marathi the official language of the BMC and taking efforts to install Shiv Vada Pav stalls, the Sena has now proposed for a Marathi Bhavan in the city. According to Sena leaders, the centre would act as a hub of Marathi culture. The ‘outsiders’ who visit the centre will get a glimpse of Marathi culture, they said.

The BMC standing committee on Monday in its final discussion on the 2009-10 budget has made provision for a Marathi Bhavan and Warkari Bhavan for the devotees who go on an annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur. Committee chairman and Sena leader Ravindra Waikar said a provison has been made in the budget for both the centres.

“The Marathi Bhavan will offer a glimpse of the Marathi culture and arts from various districts across the state,” he said. The centre will have a library on Marathi literature, arts and crafts.

“For people coming to Mumbai, this centre will be useful and they will get to know what Marathi culture is all about,” Waikar said. The Warkari Bhavan will offer shelter to all devotees who walk all the way to Pandharpur annually.
