Ruby Hall Cancer Centre had organised a thanksgiving function on the occasion of World Cancer Day, which on February 4. World Cancer Day was marked to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Vikram Gokhale noted film and television actor was present during this occasion. “It is commendable that all NGOs have been brought under one umbrella. But I feel concerned about the effects of passive smoking on children,” said Gokhale

Various non-government organizations like Astha breast Cancer support Group, Cancer Mitra Prathisthan, Cancer Patients Aid Association, Care India Medical Society, Cipla Palliative Care Centre, Chaitanyopasana Gondawale, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Prashanti Cancer Care Mission, and Prerana Support Group participated during this programme. The representatives of Charitable trust like Akkalkoth Swami Sansthan, Mukul Madhav Foundation, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Sir Ratan Tata Trust, T. Lakhani, Maharashtra Executors and Trustee Co. Pvt. Ltd., working in the field of cancer was also present on this occasion.

The program included a session of laughter therapy performed by well-known artist, Makarand Tilloo. “Everyone is busy in the gym and pay attention to their body parts, but no one is bothered about their mind. It is important to focus on the mind as well, because it is the mind that gives the command to the body,” says Tilloo.

Dr.K.B Grant, Chairman and Managing Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic, appealed to all the NGO's to promote smoke free childhood, which is the theme of UICC for 2008.Around 700 million children – almost half of the world's children – breath air polluted by tobacco smoke, particularly at home. Second-hand smoke is a health hazard for you and your family. There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoke. Give your child a smoke-free childhood. “We need to protect them from passive smoking,” he said.
