The SantaBanta car rally saw its women drivers take the wheel of revolution

No bumper bashing, no adrenaline addiction, no wheelocity, just a nice, pleasant drive uphill, following all the traffic rules. That's right, the much talked about SantaBanta.com rally saw Dr. Harish Dhillon, Principal, Yadavindra Public School, Mohali flag off the cars from the school premises early Sunday morning to a grand start. Beauties in top gear and form zig-zagged through Chandigarh to create awareness on International Women's Day and also to promote road safety and safe driving. The rally route also covered Madhya Marg, Manimajra, Chandi Mandir, Pinjore, Kalka and Dharampur before culminating at Pinewoods Resort, Barog. Organized under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the SantaBanta.com Women's Car Rally and SantaBanta.com Vintage & Classic Car Rally, interestingly, saw quite a remarkable increase in the number of women drivers, most of them first timers in the hills. Upbeat and high spirited, women were all set to take on the task with gusto. In fact, one senior citizen who signed in today refused to go back! "I got my car repaired last night, we are in good shape, and it's International Women's Day, and I want to participate," she marched ahead! The rally also saw nine teams from CATS in full form and a bevy of vintage cars from the Beetle Club. A time-distance-speed event, this is one rally that follows all the rules. So, no rash driving or road rage. As for the vintage part, this category was open to all cars manufactured prior to 1939, the classic category took in cars manufactured prior to 1960, and neo classic category prior to 1975.

Keeping with its tradition of actively participating in social and cultural events of the Tri-city, Old Yadavindrians Association (OYA) co-organised the rallies. The logistics of the event was managed by a company called Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports, owned by an ex-Yadavindrian GS Aulakh.
