Additional Commissioner of Police S B K Singh, who was heading the Economic Offences Wing, has been moved to Puducherry. Assistant Commissioner of Police Deepak Purohit, who was looking into the day-to-day probe, has meanwhile been transferred to Daman and Diu.
Police sources said the transfer orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs have not reached the police department yet. “Singh received his transfer order on Friday; Purohit was officially informed two days ago,” a senior police officer said. “But their relieving orders have not been despatched as yet — they will be given their relieving letters on Monday. No other officials have been appointed as their replacements yet.”
Incidentally, news of the transfers have come out a day after a three-member internal inquiry committee of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) submitted its probe report into the housing scam. The inquiry committee, sources said, has given a clean chit to all DDA officials; it also stated that no irregularities were found in the draw of lots used to pick the winners for the housing scheme.
A senior officer, meanwhile, said S B K Singh was earlier transferred out of Delhi Police some seven months ago but Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal had reportedly written a letter to extend his transfer orders.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat today said, “We haven’t received any orders in connection with the transfers and cannot comment on this.”
The Economic Offences Wing, which comes under the Crime Branch, has so far arrested seven persons in connection with the DDA housing scam — six of them have been sent to judicial custody till February 26. The EOW has also sent the software used in the draw of lots to the Government Examiner of Questioned Documents (GEQD) in Hyderabad for further inspection.
Under last year’s DDA housing scheme, 5,238 flats were allotted to applicants on December 16 but the allotment process has been on hold ever since allegations surfaced about irregularities in the process. Investigations since have disclosed that a cartel of property dealers were trying to corner DDA flats reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants.
