For those living in Gurgaon, an outing in the city meant hanging out in its hamlet of glossy malls, gobbling up multi-cuisine in a sprinkling of eateries and watching the grey wintry sky from a patchwork of parks. The culturati, who till now had to cruise down to the Capital for their fix of arty evenings, have some good news. The Old World Hospitality group, which rolls out the monthly programme calendar at the India Habitat Centre, has drafted an exclusive cultural schedule for Gurgaon.

Its newly launched Epicentre at the Apparel House, an ocean-blue mansion in Sector 44 that looks like another offshoot of Gurgaon’s glass world, has surprisingly packed in an assortment of plays, art and dance for the month. Says Sandeep Tandon, executive director (operations), Old World Hospitality: “Cultural programmes are an integral part of any society. For two years we were looking for a space in Gurgaon.” Epicentre offers exhibition spaces, conference venues, banquet halls, restaurants and an auditorium across 70,000 sq ft.

After it tested the waters with a power-packed performance by Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar in Kaifi Aur Main and an art show comprising 82 artists that got enough footfalls, Epicentre is ready to host more events. A play a week is something the Gurgaon people will have to get used to. On February 9, look out for Smita Bharti and Swaroopa Ghosh’s play As the Sun Sets. Feisal Alkazi brings A Matter of Life And Death on 16. Popular screen faces Shernaz Patel and Rajit Kapur will light up the stage with Rahul da Cunha’s Love Letters on February 24.

On February 12 and 20, fashion photographer Rohit Chawla will display his stunning frames of the Rabaris of Gujarat. If you need more eye candy, wait till the month-end for Amit Pasricha’s Monumental Art that takes you on a breathtaking journey through majestic, panoramic photographs of heritage sites, and Danceworx, a series of candid shots from Ashley Lobo’s Danceworx. An 80-cover restaurant, Drift, will be ready in a week. If culture can be caught between glass walls, then you have it here.
