Vadodara Tourists visiting Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) dam are a confused lot, as the authorities have stopped providing them introductory leaflets ever since Lok Sabha poll dates were declared last week and the Model Code of Conduct came into effect.

Sources said the ten-page introductory leaflets, which state basic information about the dam site, have a photograph and a statement issued by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, which cannot be distributed once code of conduct comes into force for the elections.

Jayesh Gol, a tourist from Godhra, said: “The tourism department has not given us any information leaflet and we cannot afford to pay for a guide. We have decided to find take help from locals.”

Similarly, D S Parmar from Vejalpur said, “Basic information should always be given. At least a site map should be given.”

The leaflet is an important source of information for the tourists, as it comprised basic details about 14 tourist destinations here, right from the dam viewpoint to the Rockfield ponds. The leaflet also carried a guidemap.

SSNNL authorities said they did not prepare information leaflets without Modi’s photo before the elections dates were announced.

Jwalant Trivedi, Assistant General Manager (Administration), SSNNL, said: “Before the state Assembly polls in 2007, the SSNNL had printed pamphlets in lakhs. We are trying to solve the issue as soon as possible.” Sources said the authorities are trying to separate the first page and distribute the rest to the tourists.
