Pune, January 11 In view of the traffic congestion on Pune roads caused by the heavy vehicles, the Pune Traffic Police Department and the Pune Municipal Corporation have made certain traffic arrangements diverting the heavy vehicles through alternative routes to ensure smooth and hassle-free traffic with Moharrum fast approaching.

Moharrum, which will be observed between January 10 and 19, will see processions being carried out in various parts of the city on January 19 and therefore traffic will be temporarily suspended in those areas, said a press note from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic.

The note also specified that only those heavy vehicles which are coming into the city will be permitted entry, while other heavy vehicles that merely pass through Pune will have to be diverted through another route, on January 13 and 14 .

On January 19, the last day of Moharrum the heavy vehicles going towards Mumbai or Satara will be diverted through the Hadapsar toll naka leading to Phursungi, Undhri and Pisoli till Katraj. The vehicles going from Nagar Road are requested to use the Chakan-Talegaon route.

Those vehicles coming from Nagar Road going towards Satara would have to use the Kharadi Bypass Junction to reach Katraj. Those vehicles going towards Solapur-Nagar Road, coming from the Mumbai route will have to use the Talegaon road to reach Chakan and the Shikrapur road.

The police said that a considerable number personnel from the State Transport Department, Highway Safety Patrol, Pune Rural Police and Traffic Branch, Pune as well as Traffic Wardens from the PMC will also be deputed to ensure no traffic troubles.
