Ludhiana All India Motor Transport Congress today warned the central government to bring down the petroleum prices immediately or they would resort to Chakka Jam agitation from February 16 onwards.

Charan Singh Lohara, president of All India Motor Transport Congress, at a press conference here today said that the government in and agreement with them on January 12 had said that they would form a committee to look into the issue, but till date no committee had been constituted.

“Moreover they had asked for eight weeks’ time, but we want the matter to be resolved by February 16 because we think that elections will be announced by the end of February,” he said.

He said that if the government was so concerned about the losses suffered by the oil companies, they should compensate them out of the revenue of their own taxes and the common man should not be made to suffer on this account.

Moreover, the association members said, they did not trust the balance sheets of the oil companies and demanded that these should be brought under a scanner.
