Chandigarh The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested a travel agent, Vivek Grover, on Thursday for allegedly duping three persons of Rs 16 lakh on the pretext of sending them to UK.

The Panchkula resident was operating a travel agency by the name of Wings Consultant in Sector 22 and Jalandhar.

According to Investigating Officer Devinder Singh, Grover had promised to send Kuldeep Singh of Bathinda, Hardev Singh of Sirsa and Gurdeep Singh of Mansa to UK after procuring a work permit visa for them. He had also received Rs 16 lakh from the youths. But instead of taking them to UK, he took them to Singapore.

The youths returned to India after a few days. “The travel agent had given the complainant’s post-dated cheques as security which was dishonoured by the bank,” Davinder Singh said. Upon receiving the complaint, EOW investigated the case and found the travel agent to be guilty. A case of cheating has been registered against him.
