Addressing the function Johal exhorted the social and educational institutions to apprise the people about the heroic deeds of the patriots and freedom fighters by celebrating days relating to them, so that the present generation could get inspired be apprised about their message of forming a great India by liberating it from the foreign rulers.
He said that cultural and heritage fair had been organised to create awareness among the youth about our rich cultural traditions and heritage and to divert their energies towards constructive activities. He informed that Baljit Charitable Trust had been dedicated in the service of the society and announced to sponsor the expenditure of 40 poor students of Government Senior Secondary school for computer education. He informed that during this year, the trust had constructed a gymnasium and a library for the students in the government high school of the village.
Jagdev Singh Jassowal, founder president of Prof Mohan Singh Foundation, while appreciated the efforts of NRI Baljit Singh Johal for mobilising the people for promotion of Punjabi Culture and Heritage and for making liberal contribution for the improvement in education and sports facilities in the village. He said that the Punjabi NRIs, living in different parts of the world, were bringing a good name for the country with their dedication and hard work and were always ahead in contribution for the development of their villages, as they had a deep attachment with their roots here.
Thos honoured at the function included Mata Pritam Kaur, wife of late Saroop Singh Johal, Dharam Singh Kanech, Capt Kirpal Singh Hans, Gurdev Singh Gill (all freedom fighters), Bhinder Dabwali (lyricists) and Gurmeet Bawa (Punjabi folk singer).
