Kolkata Police arrested 28-year-old Sudam Chakraborty, who had duped several people by posing as a senior manager of Google India, on Monday.

Resident of Fern Road in south Kolkata, Chakraborty used to pose as senior manager of the human resources department of Google India and offered fake appointment letters to job seekers who were mostly fresh graduates.

In return he used to charge them anything between Rs 1000 to Rs 15000 as processing charges.

Chakraborty, who is a graduate and speaks fluent English, had set up a makeshift office in Santoshpur and had prepared fake visiting cards, documents and offer letters of the company. He even had a business tie-up with an institute called Pyramid Consultancy, owned by Subhojit Bhattcharya, where training was given to the recruits. After completion of the training, Chakraborty would issue fake certificates as well.

“We had received a complaint from Arnab Bagchi at the Charu market police station and investigated the matter,” said DC (DD) Jawed Shamim.

Police have come to know that even Bhattcharya of Pyramid Consultancy had believed that Chakraborty was from Google India. Over a period of time he had cheated more than 20 people.

Police have seized his personal computer and mobile phone. Meanwhile, Google India has told police that they do not have any employee by the name of Sudam Chakraborty.
