Kolkata Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has urged the citizens to oust the CPM-led government. Addressing a rally in Nandigram on Saturday, she said the Left Front government was nearing its end and the people were determined to bring a change. Nandigram goes to Assembly by-polls on Monday.

Banerjee accused the CPM of unleashing a reign of terror during its 32-year rule and said the people of Nandigram, the region which flared up in 2007 over the state government’s efforts to establish a chemical hub, were yet to receive justice.

“We want an end to the reign of terror. Nandigram has shown by its resistance that change can come over. In fact, the town will pave the way for a change in Bengal,” Banerjee said.

“If we come to power, we will implement development programmes,” she said. The Trinamool candidate for Nandigram seat, Feroza Bibi, is the mother of one of those killed in police firing on March 14, 2007.
