Kolkata As a mark of respect to former chief minister Jyoti Basu, the Trinamool Congress has cancelled all its political activities till Tuesday when Basu's body will be handed over to the SSKM Hospital.

Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee had made the announcement on Sunday. The party’s suspended itinerary read: Mamata’s rally at Garden Reach on Sunday and Trinamool's gheraoing of SPs of all districts on Monday. "On January 30, she will go to Nandigram to address a major rally," Ranjit Dey, Trinamool Youth Congress general secretary, said. Interestingly, while all Trinamool MLAs are expected to be present in the Assembly to pay their respects to the late leader on Tuesday, Banerjee is unlikely to be there. “Didi has already made one visit and it seems she will not go there again,” said a Trinamool leader.
