Kolkata The Trinamool Congress once again raised the issue of statewide violence on Thursday, demanding early polls for West Bengal . This time, Trinamool Congress leaders took a group of people to the newly appointed Governor M K Narayanan and briefed him on the CPM’s alleged atrocities in Maoist-hit Jhargram. This was the Governor’s first political meeting.

The Trinamool Congress delegation also submitted to the Governor photocopies of all deputations on the deteriorating law and order situation and CPM’s alleged atrocities that had been submitted to former Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

“We met him and told him about the dangerous situation the state is in. In all the districts, armed CPM cadres in police uniforms are attacking our supporters and the common people. They are torching houses and killing people. A reign of terror is going on in Bengal ,” said Partho Chatterjee, leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, who led the delegation along with Sougata Roy and Sudip Bandopadhyay, two Trinamool MPs.

“We appealed to the Governor that imposition of Article 356 is a must for the state. The state government has failed to maintain law and order in the state and has lost the right to continue. There should be early polls,” added Chatterjee.

Chatterjee also brought in a group of people from Jhargram as “proof of CPM’s torture”.

“They are from Jhargram. They told the Governor how CPM cadres burnt their houses. We wanted to show the Governor the real picture. Even in Maoist-hit Jhargram, it is the armed CPM cadres who are carrying on a reign of terror,” Chatterjee said.

The group included Nimai Mondol and Pintu Ali, two residents of Jhargram, who said their houses were set on fire by armed CPM cadres.

Narayanan, interestingly, held meetings with the state home secretary Ardhendu Sen and state director general of police Bhupinder Singh on Wednesday. The Governor took stock of the Maoist problem in the Jangalmahal area and details of the preparedness of the security forces to combat the Ultra Left.

TMC leaders meet new Guv by Sukumar D. on 29 Jan 2010

Why for God sake the TMC leaders like Mamata B., Partho C and others demand again and again for the last so many years each day (365 days) Art 356 in WB ? !!! They should only know that if the CPM atrocities are indeed true the people will only stay away from supporting CPM in the next election. People are not really fool not to vote the candidate of their choice! Besides they have been demanding Art 356 for each day last year !!! As if TMC are very innocent in any violence ! For any violence they should not forget their own participation as well ! It is just disgusting to read this demand everyday and as if the TMC do not cause any violence !!!
