Kolkata The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday requested Governor M K Narayanan to ask the government to hand over Maoist leader Lalmohan Tudu’s body to his family members.

Leader of Opposition Partho Chatterjee called up the Governor and said the police are refusing to hand over the body without any reason. Earlier, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked Chatterjee to take up the issue with the Governor.

On Tuesday, Tudu’s brother-in-law had moved the High Court seeking an order that will enable him to take Tudu’s body, which had been lying in the police morgue for the last one week.

Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore district, Manoj Verma, however, said: “The police have no intention of keeping the body in the morgue. Once the family claims the body, we will give it.” Police sources said that policemen from Lalgarh police station went to Tudu’s house to issue a notice, but no one was found at home.

Leader of the Association of People’s Democratic Rights (APDR) Sujato Bhadra, meanwhile, said the police finally went to Tudu’s residence in Lalgarh on Wednesday evening with a letter to hand over the body. He said the postmortem of the body was done on February 23 and on February 25 the family claimed the body for the first time. But the police had refused to hand over the body.

Playing politics with dead body(Body politic) by P.Banerjee on 04 Mar 2010

It's really confusing according to Sujata Bhadra police offered to hand over the dead body of Tudu to his family and again police refused to hand over his dead body to his family.TMC's started playing political game with dead body whomever it belongs to as usual. It's called '(dead)body politic'!

Dead body politics of Mamata! by Kamal on 04 Mar 2010

Sujata Bhadra part of Mamata Banerjee's 'intellectual' brigade think their words are enough to prove anyone's guilt or innocence! No substantial evidence is needed. So whatever comes to their mind they say and rest take the collective responsibility to propaganda it through rallies and publishing 'news' in vernacular newspapers in WB. Lalmohan Tudu, Telgi Deepak, Chatradhar Mahto,Kishenji are all innocent and Budhdhadev Bhattacharya is 'killer'! so 'punish' Budhdhadeb and release Maoists - is Mamata's 'intellectual' brigade always demand. They didn't hesitate to spend money(what's the source of that money? Is it India's biggest PSU's fund?)to file a case in Kolkata high court and now seeking Governor's help!(TMC mastered the art to pull Governor's office into politics).fact is Tudu's family members are afraid of facing law keepers so they seek their best help- APDR people and Trinamool Congress- who are Maoists 'civil' face to get the dead body of this terrorist leader.
