The Supreme Court judgement making it unlawful to forcibly conduct narco-analysis, brain-mapping, polygraph tests is a landmark one. No doubt, some criminals may escape but as the court has stressed, it will prevent innocent citizens from being harassed. But what about the third-degree methods adopted by the investigating authorities? Whereas narco-analysis and brain-mapping are rare, torture in custody is quite common. Supreme Court should also look into this matter. One way justice can be done to the accused is to send the accused to judicial custody with human rights people present during interrogations.
