Kolkata Tension prevailed at Haldia and Mahishadal after a local Trinamool activist, Narayan Burman, was killed at Deulpota village last night.

Burman’s wife Shyamali is a member of the local panchayat. The police recovered Burman’s body from a field on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, Burman had been missing since yesterday night. Superintendent of Police, East Midnapore, Bastav Baidya said they have started an investigation into the murder. Sniffer dogs were taken to the spot, as was demanded by the villagers, said Baidya. No arrests have been made as yet, he said.

Suvendu Adhikari, MP of Tamluk, visited the village after the incident.

Adhikari said that miscreants hired by the local CPM attacked the houses of Trinamool activists on Saturday night at Deulpota and the Burman family had taken shelter in the nearby village. They returned to Deulpota on Monday. Adhikari alleged that the miscreants abducted Burman in the night and killed him.
