Justice D K Trivedi Commission, which is investigating the mysterious deaths of two minor students of Asaram Ashram-run gurkul, has started checking if there was any negligence on the part of gurukul authorities when the boys went missing.
To check this, the commission has invited operational details from around 100 organisations that are running hostels to compare the norms there. In the form, the commission has asked details like the number of students in the hostel, government guidelines for the same and those adopted by the concerned hostel.
Two minor boys— Dipesh Vaghela and Abhishek Vaghela—were found dead in the Sabarmati riverbed near Asaram Ashram on July 5 last year, after they went missing from the ashram at the night of July 3. While the parents of the children have maintained that the two had fallen prey to sorcery practised in the ashram, the ashram authorities have continuously denied the allegations.
After a large-scale public agitation against the police investigation in the case, the government appointed an enquiry commission headed by Justice D K Trivedi.
A senior official from the commission said: "The incident had happened after the boys went missing. So, it is important to see how they disappeared from the gurukul. And so, we are checking if the gurukul authorities were negligent in handling the children."
He added: "We are comparing the facilities at the gurukul with those provided by other such organisations. Apart from that, we will also check the government guidelines for such residential institutions."
One of the terms of reference for the commission is to suggest measures to prevent such incidents.
