New Delhi A speeding truck crushed two youths and left a third critically injured in an accident reported from Vasant Kunj in South Delhi late Thursday night.

Police officials said the accident took place at 11.50 pm near the Rajokri Village flyover — the three were riding on the same motorcycle and none of them had a helmet on.

“They have not been officially been identified yet,” an officer at Vasant Kunj police station said. “From the documents we could gather, we have identified the deceased as Sumer Singh (25) and Mahinder Singh (26). Sumer Singh’s brother, who is critically injured, has been identified as Rakesh Singh.

“The brothers are residents of Rajasthan and we have informed the relatives. We cannot be certain about their identities till the relatives come and identify them.”

The officer said it appears prima facie that the trio was headed towards Gurgaon. It appears the rider lost balance while negotiating a turn under the flyover, the officer said, and the bike suddenly ground to a halt. The speeding truck running behind the motorbike crushed them, the police said.

A bystander called the police and the victims were taken to Paras Hospital. Two of them were declared dead on arrival; the third is still recuperating in the ICU.

The police have registered a case against the absconding truck driver and impounded the truck.
