The AIMTC has announced that the strike would not be lifted till the price of diesel and permit fee were reduced.
“I had to get the delivery of goods today, but due to the strike, many of my customers returned empty-handed,” said Sheetal Singh, owner of a general store in Meena Bazaar.
Similarly, Manmohanjeet Singh, a supplier of water heaters, also could not send his consignment to Pathankot.
Notably, the AIMTC has been demanding a reduction of Rs 10 in diesel.
Meanwhile, in Amritsar, a partial strike was observed. Avtar Singh, president of the Truck Operators' Union, said the AIMTC has sought reduction in tyre prices, withdrawal of service tax and adjournment of interest on loans for at least six months. "The AIMTC has also demanded that there should be free movement of trucks across the country," he said. He added that complete strike would be held tomorrow onwards for an indefinite period.
