The transporters’ strike entered its second day amid support from other quarters. Apart from a few industry associations, the LPG tempo union, oil tankers union and truckers ferrying essential items have also decided to join the strike from tomorrow.

Charan Singh Lohara, President, All-India Motor Transport Congress, said, “We have got support from other unions as well. This will affect the supply of fuel, LPG, fruits and vegetables in the coming days. We are not asking anyone to join us but they are voluntarily doing so.”

Meanwhile, the United Cycles and Parts Manufacturers’ Association and Fasteners’ Association have also supported the strike. Both unions termed the transporters’ demand as ‘genuine’.

However, PHD Chamber of Commerce co-chairman R S Sachdeva said, “The entire economy depends on the road transportation industry, which accounts for over 70 per cent of the cargo movement in the country. If the strike continues, it will take a big hit on common man’s pocket.”
