After Raghu Romeo and Mixed Doubles, Rajat Kapoor resurfaces as a director with yet another rib-tickler, Mithya, a comic thriller that will hit the screens on February 8. The cast boasts the usual suspects of multiplex movies — Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Saurabh Shukla, who has also co-written the film with Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, plus Neha Dhupia as the much-needed eye candy.

Shorey and Dhupia (in the picture) were in Delhi the other day to promote the film. “Naseer was the actor Rajat had in mind for the lead when he wrote the script nine years ago. Fortunately, by the time he could afford to make the film, Naseer was too old and I was the right age. It also helped that Saif Ali Khan, Arshad Warsi and SRK turned down the film,” grinned Shorey. While Shah is still in the movie, as a gangster, Shorey is an aspiring Bollywood actor who gets embroiled in an underworld plot when he is offered the role of a don.

Dhupia, meanwhile, asserted that she played “a substantial role in a film that’s all about men”, that of a moll who wants to be a star. Monica Bedi? “No, it is not about her. I didn’t even think of her,” she said with a chuckle. For Dhupia, Kapoor was the reason she signed the film. “As a director, he doesn’t try to teach you too many things and that makes things easy,” she said, while Shorey delivered his punch lines to hard-sell Mithya. “It will make you laugh, cry and sit on the edge of your seat,” said the funnyman. Anyway, this is not the last you will see of Shorey and Dhupia. They will be starring in another movie, I Am 24, to be directed by Shukla. The multiplex cast seems inseparable.
