Kolkata An elephant trampled a man to death at Jhargram in West Midnapore district. Mantu Mahato, a resident of Pakhra village, was killed while he was working in the fields on Wednesday, said Milan Kanti RoY, District Forest Officer of Kharagpur Forest Division. Roy said the elephant was recently injured when it attacked hunters and a forest officer deputed to kill another elephant in the area which had turned rogue. “This elephant was accompanying the rogue one, which had killed five persons in Datan, Keshiyari and Nayagram areas in Jhargram subdivision. When the hunters fired on the rogue elephant, this elephant was also injured,” Roy said.
