Mumbai, January 7 The Vartak Nagar police have arrested two people for murder in the Yeoor forest in Thane.

According to Senior Police Inspector of Vartak Nagar police station Bajirao Bhosale, they found an unidentified body in Yeoor early Monday morning but were unable to trace the accused as the body was still to be identified.

Later, during a ‘naka bandi’ at Savarkar Nagar, the Vartak Nagar police stopped an autorickshaw. Two youths, Ganesh Malusare (28) and Govind Mudaliyar (21), were unable to answer routine questions and were quizzed further. The youth mentioned that they had gone to Yeoor and were returning to their residence in Anand Nagar, Kopri.

When the officers investigating the murder took the duo into custody and questioned them, they confessed to the crime.

“The deceased, Yeshwant Salunke (35), had played a role in fixing the marriage of Malusare’s sister Deepa. After the wedding, Deepa was having trouble at her in-laws’ home. Despite repeated pleas, Salunke did not intervene and instead continued to have cordial relations with Deepa’s husband,” said Bhosale. “This enraged Malusare who plotted to kill him. On Monday, Malusare and his friend made Salunke consume alcohol and then took him to Yeoor where they killed him by smashing his head with a stone.”
