Those arrested were AMC peon Rajendra and his accomplice Nihal Pal. The Allahabad police have also recovered Rs 2.75 lakh, which was stolen by the miscreants.
On February 2, three miscreants — Rajendra, Nihal and another youth — had brutally murdered Tulsi Ram Patel, a watchman of AMC and fled with Rs 2.75 lakh. The cash was kept in the locker of the Jal Sansthan executive engineer’s office, situated in the AMC building.
Soon after the incident, Rajendra allegedly went on leave. Taking into account his long absence, the police began to keep an eye on his movements. Later, they also traced Pal’s location. On Sunday evening, Civil Lines Inspector R K Singh and his team raided Pal’s residence in Puramufti and arrested the duo.
“The third accused is still evading arrest,” said Deputy Inspector General B P Tiwari.
