New Delhi The Southwest Delhi Police has arrested two people for murdering a woman and her two minor sons in Bindapur area on January 9.

Police said that one of the accused is the brother-in-law of the deceased. He had committed the murder because the deceased had refused to give him money for buying drugs.

Seema Chand (34) and her two children, Kunal (7) and Nishant (4), were found dead in their house in Uttam Nagar on the night of January 9.

Her husband, Hem Chand, a computer designer, had found their bodies when he came home after work.

Police said that all three were found murdered with their throats slit. The locker of an iron almirah in the room was found open with the jewellery missing.

One of the accused, Deepak Nanda, had on Friday, surrendered before the police and claimed that the three murders were committed by the other accused, Bhagirath. Bhagirath is the cousin of the deceased’s husband.

Deepak told the police that Bhagirath had killed the mother and the children for money and jewellery. He said he was having “tea in the drawing room” when he heard screams from a room inside. After the murders, the duo escaped with some jewellery and valuables, a part of which was kept by Deepak. “My conscience did not allow me to keep mum. Now, on my family and friends’ advice I have surrendered,” Deepak told the police.

Bhagirath had earlier been arrested in a case of robbery in Sarai Rohila in 2005, police said.
