Pappu and Sajjad maintained that the money belonged to their friend Monu alias Muzaiddin, who is in New Delhi. Monu had requested them to hand over the money to his family in Azamgarh, they added.
When the police contacted Monu, he admitted that the money belonged to him. The police, however, refused to accept their claim and booked Pappu and Sajjad under 41/411 of the Indian Penal Code. Police teams have been sent to New Delhi and Azamgarh for further probe.
